“Sway”, Boston 1990

When I first started writing (1989), one of the major spots in Boston was the “Graffiti Board” alley, next to downtown Boston’s Corner Mall. In the day, the Graffiti Board got painted legally. At night the alley next to it got painted. One of the landmark pieces there was the “Sway” piece. The fade was RIDICULOUSLY smooth. Krylon Hot Pink to White, not some fancy Euro paint, and this fade was puuuurfect…

Favorite Halloween Graffiti – “Alert” 1992-1993

A couple of my favorite Halloween pieces, both by Alert and both done in Dorchester..

“Alert”… Skills. HAZ (Heroes And Zeroes). BFS (Built For Speed). 1992

“Alert”.. 5AV (5 Angry Vandels). KBN (Kills By Night). 1993

“Alone” piece, English High, 1993

“Alone” piece at English High, 1993.

English High School was a major spot in Boston (Jamaica Plain specifically), until it became a buff in 1994. I still remember the night we painted this. I think it was February and it was COLD. “RANT OD” painted the bottom right wall with scrap cans, and that shit still came out so dope. I can’t find a picture of his whole piece, (so if anyone has it, give it up), but check out his “R”! I had to take the awkward spot on the stairs. Actually,  I was reclaiming some dissed letters that I already had there. (Just under the “E”, you can see a piece of the old “E”.) The mint green color in the fill was a rare brand of some early designer paint that I think was called Cool Colors. You could only get it at Somerville Lumber and they only had a few cans at a time. And that green that I signed it and hooked up the “OD Top Notch”?…. yup, that is the legendary Krylon “Jungle Green”. It was discontinued about 5 years by then, so I was being very sparing with the reserves.

“Alone” piece, Dorchester 1992

“Alone” piece at the Dogwalk in Dorchester. 1992. Krylon “Brick” force field (discontinued color, even back then), homemade green in the background. The spot was located next to the Ashmont-Mattapan trolley line. Boston’s OD crew was the first to paint that spot and so much dope art was created there, including alot of the pieces that were the foundation of what people now call “Boston’s no negative space” style.
